There are two types of copy that I have read in my life.

The ones that are average enough that they get people to consider buying their product.

Not that impressive in my opinion.

And ones that hit my brain's receptors leaving me in a state of awe that makes me want to pull my father, mother, and dead uncle’s wallets because I want to buy whatever they are selling.

Whenever I come across these kinds of copy and dissect them, I realize that their copy serves as mindless zombies with one function in mind.

"Addressing the customers in such a way that they see themselves subconsciously through your writing".

Today I want to share four techniques that leave your customer thinking

"Did they leave secret bathroom cameras just to spy on me and get that information".

The first is the use of the word You.

Remove "I" in your copy  as much as possible when necessary.

Nothing is off putting as someone who talks about themselves in their copy.

This is the most basic.

The second is using an emotional story in a way that the audience can relate to. 

The key word here is “relates to”.

People think that slapping an emotional sob story will work and in their defense it does to an extent.

That's why certain story archetypes like the zero to hero journey, stories about abuse and many others work.

But if not done perfectly...you can miss the point you are trying to lay across to your audience.

Let me give you an example with two variations of the same story to cement my point.

I was walking down the road and a man grabbed me into a dark alley.

He violated me and left me with feelings that were so horrid, I never remained the same.

Nothing is bad with this story but we can make it better

I was walking down the road and a man grabbed me and forced me down a dark alley

It felt like those moments where life is hitting you hard, bad and fast 

Like when something happens unexpectedly to your loved ones or pets

Or when you lose your job without a backup plan.

Because I had no said in it and couldn't do much to protect myself, You can understand how powerless, afraid and ashamed I felt after he violated me.

Leaving me with those kinds of emotions that wakes someone at night with bad dreams, difficult in breathing, profuse sweating, and a nauseating pit in your stomach that never stops.

If you have ever experienced it, you know this is the worst kind and wouldn't even wish it on your worst enemies.

Can you see how I incorporate you into the journey of my story making your reading experience better?

The third is to never blame the customers even when it is obvious.

This is a relatively easy concept to understand so I wouldn't go much into it.

The last is addressing their problems in the way they view it.

People view their problems through different worldviews and belief systems, Specific language and vernacular, what they watch and who they listen to and so on.

And you can capitalize on that.

An example can be cited from different slangs used by Gen Z and Gen alpha.

Gen Z might say he has great leadership and dominant skills.

Gen Alpha might say he is giving main Sigma Character vibes.

Gen z might say that's a lie.

Gen Alpha might say that's cap.

Gen Z might describe someone as crazy.

Gen Alpha might say the person is Delulu.

These languages(slangs) reflect the audience and when you want to address them, you should use them.
