That empty inbox when zero leads came in today...

Last year, my family and I went on a summer getaway.

Every couple of years we go to my wife's family's cabin in Massachusetts.

And on this particular flight to Boston...

The people watching was particularly interesting.

In the row in front of me, there was a girl in her early 20s who was scrolling between apps faster than I've ever seen before.

And as I watched in amazement...

I saw that one of the apps that she kept circling through was her bank app.

I didn't see any sensitive information...

And I could care less how many zeros are in her bank account.

But as she got to her Bank of America app for the 4th time in 2 minutes...

I had to wonder.

What did this girl think happened in the last 2 minutes that those numbers were going to be different?

This reminds me of what I used to do waiting for cold email leads to respond.

Check email.

Nothing.

Close Gmail.

Reopen Gmail thinking maybe it didn't refresh right.

My wife would walk by and remind me, "The internet's not broken, honey."

But she's right.

Most copywriters are like that girl on the airplane.

We apply on the same job boards.

Use the same cold emails.

Then wonder why no fish are biting.

We're looking for clients in all the fishing ponds they USED to be.

Meanwhile, there's a river full of businesses who desperately need what we do.

They just don't hang out where we're fishing.
