I just got back from Spring Break in Florida with my wife and the two kiddos.

And it brought back some old memories.

Growing up, my mom worked for Northwest Airlines (now Delta).

Which meant every trip, we arrived at the airport at least two hours early.

My brother and I hated it.

And mom still reminds me to get there nice and early when I travel (and DID last week).

We'd sit bored out of our minds, while other families breezed through security with minutes to spare.

But my mom knew things we didn't:

Flights get delayed.

Security lines back up.

Check-ins glitch at exactly the wrong moment.

Missing our flight from freezing Minnesota to sunny Orlando would’ve hurt waaaay more than a little thumb-twiddling.

So nowadays…

I’m fine snacking at the gates for a while to get to Florida more NOW-er.

Because I’ll be turning 39 next month…
